Onion Dip Key Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe, including substitution ideas:

  • Vegetable oil — I use extra virgin olive oil. You can learn more about it and answer any questions, like is extra virgin olive oil vegan! If you need a substitute, you can use your favorite neutral vegetable oil, like avocado oil.
  • Onions — You’ll need 2 to 3 medium onions, peeled and diced.
  • Garlic — We’ll be using 2 to 3 cloves of garlic. You can substitute a teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Sour cream — You can use storebought vegan sour cream or use this cashew cream made from raw cashews. Or use a go-to favorite, silken tofu. You can find silken tofu in the produce section of many national grocery stores. I like to combine silken tofu with lemon juice to give it more tang.
  • Mayo — Let’s make it extra creamy with a bit of vegan mayo.
  • Seasonings — I season mine withvegan worcestershire sauce, salt, freshly ground black pepper, and dehydrated onions. You can substitute soy sauce if you don’t have any vegan Worcestershire on hand.
  • Herbs — Use fresh chives and thyme if you have them handy, otherwise, see the recipe card for substituting dried herbs.

For even more onion flavor, add a teaspoon or two of onion powder!
