Sony's Days of Play 2024 campaign has given PS Plus subscribers a real treat — access to those Grand Theft Auto San Andreas The Definitive Edition trophies on PS5 and PS4. While it's not the most stable version of the classic PS2 game, it's still one of the best PS Plus games available right now, so PS Plus Extra subscribers should play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas The Definitive Edition on their PlayStation console of choice!

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is now available via PS Plus Extra

Announced as one of the 13 PS Plus Extra and Premium Days of Play 2024 bonus games, GTA San Andreas The Definitive Edition is now available to PS Plus Extra subscribers as of Friday, June 7, 2024. That means you can hop into the PS Plus Extra game catalog right now and download this classic game on PS5 and PS4.
Originally released on PS2, GTA San Andreas is still considered one of the greatest games of all time. Where Grand Theft Auto III first gave us a hilarious sandbox of crime and violence to enjoy, and Grand Theft Auto Vice City built upon that with better graphics and a cooler atmosphere, the series only came into its own with San Andreas. That's where we first saw Rockstar nail the story aspect of their games, with the game's protagonist CJ feeling like the first truly realized character in the series.

It was also the biggest and most diverse of the GTA titles released on PS2, introducing modified cars, expanded melee combat, new side activities, and RPG mechanics into the series. Also, it's the one that has an unlockable jetpack, so obviously, it's the best one. Sure, it would technically be easier to fly with a stick of butter than this thing in San Andreas, but it's still a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, GTA San Andreas for PS5 and PS4 has one problem: The Definitive Edition remaster is a mess. While still perfectly playable, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas The Definitive Edition is still swimming with bugs and frame rate issues on both PS5 and PS4. The game also looks pretty ugly, updating the graphics of the original PS2 game without adjusting the art direction to tie those elements together as they jut out at our eyeballs.

While it's great that PS Plus Extra players can check out one of the best GTA games in the series, the catch is that The Definitive Edition isn't the best version of the game. However, the upside for gamers that don't have access to a PS2 to play the original version of the game is that San Andreas The Definitive Edition has a platinum trophy for you to unlock on PS5 and PS4.

Plus, San Andreas The Definitive Edition will soon be the only GTA game we have to play on PS Plus Extra as Grand Theft Auto V is currently listed as one of the games leaving PS Plus in June 2024. GTA V leaves some big boots to fill and I'm not convinced this remaster can do it, but definitely check it out and let us know what you think down in the comments below.
