Says manual but shows automatic. I had 2 white ones (sticks), one with the body color bumpers, tach, power mirrors, etc.

GREAT cars, and fun because underneath they are a Mazda 121.

320 miles!! Must be a terrible site to list that car on, because it is desirable and worth hugely more. I got way more than that for mine and it had more than 320 miles LOL

If I was in the market for a pure garage queen like that, I'd happily pay 35-40 Grand. I loved that car, but not sure I'd love just looking at it.

1990 Ford Mustang 7-Up Convertible (https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1990-ford-mustang-158575)

320 Miles

Asking price $70,000. Highest offer: $6,500.

I just did a little research and found that someone paid $82,500 for one with 16 miles at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in 2017. That'll buy a lot of 7-Up.

I used to live right near that guy. Used to see the car in his driveway.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_P1800#Mileage_record
A 1966 Volvo P1800S and its owner Irv Gordon (1940–2018) of East Patchogue, New York, have the Guinness world record for highest mileage. Gordon began driving the car in 1966, and in 1987 the car reached the one million mile mark. In 1998, it was registered as the vehicle with the highest certified mileage driven by the original owner in non-commercial service, by the Guinness Book of World Records, with a total of 1.69 million miles.

On 2 April 2002, Gordon and his P1800S were guests on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, after reaching the two million mile mark.[18][19][20][21]

In January 2011, Gordon and his Volvo were featured on PBS's Nova ScienceNow and in November 2011 in Hemmings Sports & Exotic Magazine.[21][22]

In June 2013, when the car had reached a little over 2,996,000 miles, Volvo Cars North America (VCNA) launched an unprecedented PR campaign valuing the performance and in September 2013 the car surpassed the 3 million mile mark in Alaska.[23]

When Irv Gordon died, on 15 November 2018, the car had driven more than 3.2 million

miles.[24]

That's really cool. By the time of this truck, vans had replaced panel trucks. It's odd that they would even make this.

It's nice to see that it was taken care of so well though. It's definitely unique. For someone into trucks, this would make a nice addition to the collection.

Having had to work on a van, i'd rather work on something with a nice long hood. I would want a slightly longer hood than OJ's buddy's Bronco; i've helped a buddy work on his Bronco (1990 model i think), and those back two spark plugs were a streeeeeeetch and a half.

I agree with how they drove. I bought a '72 1800ES because I loved how it looked. I soon determined that it wasn't really a sports car. It desperately needed power steering, I had it aligned several times and it never got better. Handled like a small truck and the FI needed adjustment on a monthly basis.

If it's geared low enough and you air down, it might not be bad in sand (I wonder if you can get a Detroit Locker for these?).

No ground clearance and very limited suspension travel for any trails though, plus a horrible turning radius.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking, especially considering the era it's from. I doubt the makers killed themselves insulating against heat and noise. Super cool looking ride though.

In a lot of local level competition events, if you are losing, nobody cares what you do as long as you are safe and aren't annoying to be around.

When you start winning, someone is going to inevitably break out the rule book and begin to complain.

It's mostly about clearance and high-sidewall tires, not storage space, iirc. Makes it easier to flip (allegedly), which is pretty much the only bad thing that could happen on a wide-open concrete lake.

The Laforza conversions were done by the Monster Miata people. I was in their plant when I picked up the remains of the Sunkist Miata color car. I sold it to them after totaling it and bought it back about 5 years later.

There were at least 4 of the Laforzas in the plant at that time undergoing the installation of the Ford engines and transmissions.

Remember that Audi, at the time, was just a rebadged recently aquired NSU. It was not the upper market name plate we have been conditioned to think about.

The NSU K70 which became the VW K70 was basically the first version of the Passat.

The Audi 50 was basically NSU's small market FWD hatch that was supposed to replace the Prinz and compete against the Fiat 127 (which was bastardized later as the Yugo). When VW purchased NSU they renamed it Audi and started moving it upmarket, but the designs of these early 70s Audis were really NSU designs of mass market cheap cars.

I am confused. So the Audi that formed Auto Union (and the four ring logo) with DKW, Horsch, and Wanderer in 1932 was not the "same" Audi as we have now? :dunno:

Correct. I believe that Horch went bankrupt in the 1930s and was bought by whoever (maybe Mercedes?) and the founder of that company (August Horch) made Audi (which is the Latin translation of Horch). The company later merged with DKW and Wanderer and Audi to make Auto Union. They were in trouble again in the 60s and merged with NSU (I am not sure if they still sold some of their awful 1950s cars as auto-union at the time or if it was dormant) when it was purchased in 1969 or 1970 by VW - mostly, iirc, for their factory facilities, but VW realized that NSU had many modern designs that would help them in the transition from the rear-engined, Type 1 based cars they had in their stable at the time (Beetle, Type 3, Type 4 etc...). As I said, the K70- was really the predecessor to the Passat (and the Audi 80) and the Audi 50 (nee, NSU K50) was what became the Polo.

https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/436638126363557716/

BTW - the Kxx moniker was for piston engines (Kolben) to differentiate it from NSU's rotary engined cars like the Ro80

Basically, when the merger / purchase happened, Auto Union was only a branding and factories they bought and NSU was factory and designs that they bought. They basically took NSU designs and made them into either Volkswagens or Audis.

BTW, to the best of my knowledge the Mk1 Golf was an in-house VW design (with Giugiaro design) - and they reused the visual component on the Audi 50 / Polo which were developed by NSU / Auto Union.

Joe R

15th September 2022, 13:53

^Great - thanks for explaining that!! My dad had a DKW (late 50's, early 60's) that also had an "Auto Union" badge and the four ring logo - IIRC. Interesting history.

I was really bothered by my comment above about not remembering if Auto Union / Audi was making anything other than their awful 50s cars because I thought I remembered something - and a little research had led me to the Audi 72 which I vaguely remember from visits to Europe in the 70s.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_F103

So, the Auto Union part did have some newer designs, although to my understanding they quickly (around when the Passat came) replaced them with the B1 platform which was influenced by the NSU / Passat designs for the new Audi 80.

From:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_80#B1_(1972%E2%80%931978)

"Audi chief engineer Ludwig Kraus had famously been disparaging about the outgoing F103 series, referring to it as the "bastard",[citation needed] owing to its Auto Union/DKW bodyshell and Mercedes-Benz engine"

Another car I remember from these days as a kid in Europe was the Audi 100 S coupe.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_100_Coup%C3%A9_S

What a looker.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/08/Audi_100_Coup%C3%A9_S.JPG/2560px-Audi_100_Coup%C3%A9_S.JPG

I am actually pretty sure my Mom had a 1976 F104 Audi 100 for a little while. I do not remember it too well, I believe it was quickly replaced by a Ford Galaxie.

And left me with a few months to go on a leased Suzuki SX4 and no viable dealers to return it to at the end of the lease. Suzuki sent me a letter naming a Chevrolet dealer to turn it in to. The dealer had no idea what I was talking about when I tried to make an appointment to turn it in.

It was a fun car with no problems and I considered buying it at the end of the lease but with no dealers to support it if there were problems I decided to let it go. The Chevrolet dealer finally reluctantly agreed to take the car and I turned it in.

I signed a lease with very precise terms upon disposition of the car at the end of the lease. Had I stopped sending payments and kept the Suzuki I'm certain the lease company would come looking for me and the car.

I had no desire to cause myself trouble just to keep a car I had enjoyed for a few years. Had I really wanted to keep it I would have bought it at the end of the lease.

It usually goes the other way. When my son was 5 or 6, he had surgery on his feet requiring a rental wheelchair. I turned it in when we were done with it, but had a huge hassle getting the rental company to stop billing me for it. Next time, if there is a next time, I will buy a wheelchair.

If I had known in advance about their departure I would have tried to work something out but I would have had to cover any payments left in the lease plus the costs for turning it in early.

IIRC my Suzuki dealer closed before the announcement was made.

"1957 Lotus Elise" or V8 Dune Buggy? :D

Looks like a lot of fun actually. The "made from scratch" is a little scary though.

This is a "book frame" replica build of a Lotus Super Seven with a mildly built 5.0L engine from a foxbody Mustang donor. The car design is based on the McSorely book frame. I started building this in 2009 and completed it to its current state in 2019. It was built completely from the ground up (no kit). The fenders, dash, and front nose were ordered from places online, but everything else was made from scratch.

Newly Rebuilt 306 with Holley 76650 650CFM carb (roughly 750 miles on the engine since rebuild)
Edelbrock Performer intake
AFR 165 Aluminum Heads
Ford Racing E-Cam
Comp Cams 1.7 Roller Rockers
MSD distributor, coil, and ignition
Astro A5 transmission with .59 5th gear
8.8 IRS rear suspension LSD
MonsterMiata axles
Lotus Elise seats
Wheels are XXR 002 15x9 0 offset

The mustang engine donor was bought in Jan 2012
The car is registered as a "Lotus 1957 Seven Dune Buggy"

Seats look saggy - are they meant to be like that? Interior looks a bit mismatched. Photos seem to show unfinished wiring. Why restore a car and get rid before you can enjoy it. All seems a bit fishy to me. Fresh paint job? I’d need to see pics of the bare shell before it’s painted!!

Yes, it seems like a rushed finish.
Isn't dark green or black the correct color for the engine?

Yes ... engine color is all wrong.
I too would want to see pictures of the frame and the bare shell prior to painting and assembly.

They rattle my whole house when they fly over. Something tells me they weren't trying to be stealthy when they designed it.

We've had a few Chinooks land here at work over the years I've been here. They are huge. And loud.

But nothing else comes close to a Blackhawk. If you're within 50 or 60 feet when they take off you have to brace yourself or the downwash will knock you over. And when they land on our grass it kills an area about 40 feet in diameter.

Highlights
THIS... is a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera, finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black interior.

This 911 is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The attached Carfax history report lists no accidents or mileage discrepancies in this 911's past.
Modifications reported by the seller are extensive, and some notable modifications include an "L76" V8 engine swap, a SPEC Clutch stage 2 clutch, Koni FSD shocks, BBK Performance ceramic coated headers, a custom 2.5-inch exhaust with aftermarket catalytic converters, and more listed below.
A build sheet is provided in the photo gallery, and a partial list of notable equipment includes the Advanced Technic Package, Comfort Package, a power sunroof, self-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a black full leather interior, heated front seats, and Porsche Stability Management (PSM).
Porsche introduced the 996-generation 911 for the 1999 model year. New from the ground up, it was the first water-cooled 911, and it stood out from its predecessors with a completely redesigned front end that ditched the traditional round lights. The line-up grew to include coupe, convertible, and Targa models plus numerous variants ranging from the base Carrera to the track-ready GT2.
Power comes from a 6.0-liter L76 V8 sourced from a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT, rated at 362 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque in stock form. Due to the modifications performed it likely produces more power, but a dyno sheet was not provided to confirm. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.

I like it. The back looks great. Doesn't appear to be a real Shooting Brake though, just a faux one. the convertible top still appears to be under the rear windows.

This Solstice comes with a very rare SEMA Nomad Concept Hardtop. Sale also includes the soft convertible top and tonneau with hardware.

But isn’t Bentley supposed to be the sporty luxury brand?

According to a quick Google search, the 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental was the last Bentley offered with a manual transmission.

I have no idea if this price is representative of all of them, or just the manuals:

A bit higher than the normal price for a hardtop R-Type coupe, but this is a special coachbuilt version - so that's probably why they are asking this price (I suspect it is not because of the manual).

Of course, if it was a Continental R-Type, the price would be $1.2 to $2.5 million, for basically the same car with small differences (headers, continental badges, small changes in the interior, higher gear ratios), so basically, you can look at it as a bargain.

Wow, is this ugly. It's a shame they modified a Z06 C5 for this.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2004-chevrolet-corvette-z06-92/

This 2004 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has been modified with a custom body kit based on a 1967 C2 body that was reportedly sourced from Chattanooga Rod Design of Tennessee and installed by California Collisions and Customs of Sacramento, California.

The fixed-roof coupe was reportedly modified with a body kit from Chattanooga Rod Design designed to resemble a 1967 C2 body. The seller states that a kit fabricated to fit a convertible model was modified to fit the FRC body of this example, and the car was repainted in red by California Collisions and Customs.

The slope of the laid back windshield is what really ruins it for me. There are a couple of these that show up at C & Cs from time to time. There is also one with the 1954 Corvette body kit. Not my cup of tea for sure.
