My Language Exchange (2024)

Can anyone help me with 2 easy questions. What is the equivalent to Mrs./a married lady.
Secondly, in English we can address a letter to someone c/o (care of) someone else, if the person we are sending it to is part of a big organisation and will be passing the letter on to the intended recipient. I'm sure there'a an easier way to explain, does anyone know what i am talking about?

In response to your first question, Mrs. in spanish is Sra.

Brief explanation:

Young females are called Señoritas. When you are introduced to a young lady you can't tell if she is married or not. Especially if you meet a young lady on the street. You can say, "...mucho gusto Señorita..." after a handshake or you have formally introduced each other.

Older women are called Señoras. Again, if they are married it's a sign of respect to acknowledge that by saying Señora and if they are not it is still respectful according to their age. If the woman is not married

In response to your second question, if you are sending an envelope addressed to a company but to a specific person:

You can write or type

(The name of the company)
Atencion: (Full name of the person)
(The address) Different countries arrange the street names and or numberical address different than you might be used to. So before you send a letter or package make sure you have the address correctly trying going to your postal service in your area, they should know about international addresses.

Thank you for responding. I'm actually sending the letter to Mexico so you will have a good idea of what people do there. I didn't make myself clear first time so i'll try and explain again.
The letter is to be read by a girl we'll call Julie but I don't have her address. I have an address of a hotel nearby that is owned by Senora Bartes who is friends with Julie. I don't want Senora Bartes to read it, I just want her to pass the letter on to Julie.
How should I address it?

Just a question: Do you have the complete name of your friend? In Mexico we use the First name (Rafael), Last Name (Palafox) and also our Mother's maiden name (Huerta)

What I would advise you is to address the letter to Sra. Bartes and just after the address, in a separate line add: "favor de entregar a: Julie X Y (please pass it on Julie X Y)".

If Ms Bartes knows perfectly Julie, and if they are good friends, without any doubt she would deliver it to your friend.

To the extent to be understood by native spanish speakers for now and then work on being more fluent and comfortable with basic structure.
