Many years ago when I was grocery shopping, Jello was giving away plastic star or bell molds when you purchased xx packages of Jello. I decided to do the deal, and picked up a star. There was also a recipe booklet.

Inside that recipe booklet was a Kaleidoscope Dessert recipe. I made that dessert for 10+ years, every year to take to Christmas dinner at my parent’s house. Everyone loved it!!

At some point (probably during a move) that star mold got lost. But I kept the recipe.

Last year at Christmas dinner I decided to make this dessert again (I served it as a side dish actually), and bought another star mold online. (While I have never tried it, I am sure any large silicone mold will work.)

● Note: You can use the extra cubes as garnish if you like. I usually do, but for some reason they did not make the photos.

Cooking spray to the rescue! These days, a pliable silicone mold is not always what we reach for' especially if you're trying out your grandma's vintage metal tube pan! This recipe was made in a metal Bundt pan liberally sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.

What countries drink eggnog? ›

Throughout Canada, the United States and some European countries, eggnog is traditionally consumed over the Christmas season, from late October until the end of the holiday season. A variety called ponche crema has been made and consumed in Venezuela and Trinidad since the 1900s, also as part of the Christmas season.

Does a Jello mold need oiling before Jello is added to it? ›

Spray your mold: Make sure you spray your mold—no matter what type you use—with cooking spray before filling. This will make removing the gelatin easier. Take your time: Multi-layer molds take time to create. Each layer needs to set for about 45 minutes before adding the next.

Should I use Pam in Jello mold? ›

Kitchen Curio also recommends rinsing the mold with cold water before filling it with Jell-O to make it easier to unmold. Spraying the mold with Pam or some other cooking spray is another common trick, but one that may leave a residue and flavor on the Jell-O, which you may not want depending on what you are making.

Do you need to grease silicone molds for Jello? ›

This might sound surprising but it's not at all necessary. Greasing a Jell-O mold pan will only result in greasy Jell-O. Yuck! Tip #2: Cut your liquids down in order to create a firmer Jell-O that is easier to unmold and will hold it's shape.

Will Jello set in silicone molds? ›

Plastic, metal, ceramic, stoneware, porcelain, glass and silicone are all suitable materials for molding Jello.

What did eggnog used to be called? ›

It is believed that eggnog began in Europe. As early as the 13th century, medieval monks in Britain were known to drink "posset," a warm ale punch with eggs and figs. Over time, this likely merged with the various milk and wine punches often served at social gatherings.

What is rum and milk called? ›

The Milk Punch is a classic co*cktail that traditionally combines brandy or rum with sugar, vanilla extract and milk (of course). Its history is extensive, dating to at least the 1600s, when the recipe first appeared in print.

What do Germans drink in winter? ›

The German name for mulled wine, Glühwein, translates to “glow wine,” and there's nothing better than this traditional drink to make you glow with warmth on a cold night.

What can I use instead of Jell-O mold? ›

All you need is a fun shaped vessel – I like decorative cake pans (Nordicware makes great ones) but you could totally just use a regular glass or stainless mixing bowl, gelatin, juice, and some time.

What can I use as a Jell-O mold? ›

You can also use metal round, tube or bundt cake pans. They work beautifully to make layered ring-molded gelatins too. You should be able to find ring-shaped molds and individual-portion molds at your local cookware store.

Will Jell-O stick to a metal pan? ›

Metal pans work better than glass or ceramic. I am not sure why, but the Jello Jigglers are less likely to stick to a metal pan. If they don't easily remove, let the pan warm up in a shallow dish of warm water for a few seconds OR just leave the pan out of the refrigerator for a little bit to let the pan warm.
